Chester Crimewatch
Sadly it is a sign of the times that we all need to be aware of a variety of crime related activities going on around us. In this section we are not necessarily looking to become budding Columbo’s or **Bluey Hills**. However, I think it is an idea that I include a Chester Crimewatch section on Chester Lifestyle. This of course fits the mantra of Chester Lifestyle being as much a website for the people of Chester as well as visitors to Chester.
Chester Crimewatch
As well as being aware of any suspicious local activities, it would also be an idea to report any other suspicious goings on. As an example, if you are aware of any internet related scams then why not report them on here.
I’m no expert but as a general rule regarding ‘dodgy’ looking emails, don’t reply to any of them and don’t open any attachments. How do you know they are dodgy? It can be difficult. Especially the ones purporting to come from your bank. The emails look real as they have the bank’s logo and look official. If the email starts with “Dear Customer” however, don’t act on it. Just delete as soon as you can.
As a guide I have added a couple of excellent links to help us all spot a ‘dodgy’ email. The first link is a link to a BBC guide….

How Many Nigerian Prince’s Do You Know?
Of course ‘dodgy emails are not only purporting to be from banks and other supposedly reputable sources. Hands up, how many of us have a secret stash of a few million dollars set aside for us by an extremely friendly, generous Nigerian prince we’ve never met? It’s not only Nigerian prince’s any more though is it.
There are still a load of heart-rendering tales of woe emails being sent. And all we have to do to release these huge amounts of funds is send them our bank details and a load of other personal information. Simples!!
I must admit I do read some of them now and then for a laugh. Oh, by the way, if you think the above paragraph should be used as the correct procedures to follow, don’t reply!! Under any circumstances. Needless to say, it’s a scam. A scam of the highest order.
What To Report Locally?
Well anything that looks suspicious really. Bogus door to door canvassers for instance. If you are aware of any, then post it on here.
Or also, for example, if you live in an area that has back alleys (I didn’t know ginell was another word for an alley until a few weeks ago. Weird or what!!) and you see anyone loitering, then post it on here. The more people that are aware then the more observant and cautious we will all be.
It is important to note that we should be vigilant and not vigilante.
It goes without saying that as well as making us all aware on here, we also notify the relevant authorities. So, below you will see details of these authorities:
Chester Crimestoppers
Report crimes anonymously.

Telephone Number – 0800 555 111
Cheshire Police

Telephone Number – In the first instance call 101
Also, have a good look around these websites as well and see what threats are already known about.
Hopefully this will turn into being a two way communication process.
**Bluey Hills**
OK, how many said “Who the hell is Bluey Hills?” when they saw his name above.
To the uninitiated, Bluey Hills (real name Lucky Grills….no, seriously!!) is an Australian cop from back in the “Lionel Blair” late 1970’s. He is a legend (isn’t he? Are you reading Garry Crayton?).
Massively overweight, heavy drinker and smoker. He always got his man. He could jump out of his police car and give chase after an Adonis built, superfit Aussie crook, give him a 100 yards start…..and still catch him!! Every time!!
What a man!! Talking of which, here is the legend…..
And ‘in action’ phoning in throwing a ‘sickie’ after a huge session the night before no doubt!!
The programme was one of those where it was so bad, you had to watch it!!
In Conclusion
On a serious note, it goes without saying that we should all be vigilant (maybe more so this time of the year) and wherever possible we should make each other aware of anything suspicious. And, as already stated, make a note of Chester Crime Stoppers and Cheshire Police details. If this website’s Chester Crimewatch section helps eliminate any crimes then its inclusion has been worthwhile.
Normally I would sign off by saying I look forward to hearing from you, but in this instance I don’t mind if I don’t. This would mean all is well in the world. We can dream can’t we.
