Chester Cathedral Christmas Tree Festival
Back for the fifth consecutive year is the ever popular Chester Cathedral Christmas Tree Festival.
This year promises to be bigger and better than previous years. I went and had a look last year and it was certainly impressive enough then. Entering Chester Cathedral on any occasion is always a special event. There is a certain aura whenever you walk through the doors.
This year’s festival features more than 55 majestic Christmas trees. As a result, the Cathedral Cloisters will be transformed into amazing tree-lined winter walkways.
The festival is a popular event and occasion for the Chester and Cheshire local communities. The trees adorning the walkways will be decorated by local schools and local businesses from all across Chester and Cheshire.
Visitors to the Cathedral can vote for their favourite trees using festival voting slips. It is important to note that the taking part in the event is an achievement to be proud of. Any votes attained is a bonus.
Chester Cathedral Christmas Tree Festival
Local businesses like Donald Insall Architects, Allington Hughes and the Chester Grosvenor have all agreed to participate.
Chester Cathedral Vice Dean Barry Wilson said: “The Christmas Tree Festival is a great opportunity for us to give something back to the local community.
“It’s wonderful to see the involvement of so many schools and local businesses, and delightful that many Cheshire families have made the festival a part of their annual Christmas activities.”
As ever the proceeds from this year’s festival will go to a great local cause. This year the Ultrasound Breast Care Scanner Appeal at the Countess of Chester Hospital will benefit.
As already mentioned, local schools are also participating. The Cathedral’s Education Department has created a Christmas Tree Trail for children of all ages.
The festival will run from November 25 until January 7 and will be open daily. Opening times are as follows:
Open daily: Mon – Sat 9am – 6pm, Sun 11am – 4pm.
Entry is free of charge, though donations are welcome.
If you are in Chester and passing the Cathedral you should really pop in and have a look. You won’t be disappointed.
Special Services
In addition to the Christmas Tree Festival there will be special services to mark one of the holiest times in the Christian calendar. Included in these services will be a Blessing of the Trees with Carols at 3.30pm on Sunday, December 10 and a crib service for all the family on Christmas Eve.
Christmas at the Cathedral is incomplete without a feast of festive music.
There is certainly plenty to look forward to.
Expect carols and seasonal readings from Chester Cathedral Choir at Joyeux Noël concerts on December 9 and 16.
