Baby Snow Leopard
There will be some that know that I am a huge fan of our world famous Chester Zoo. What an amazing venue to have right on our doorsteps. Each to their own and all that, but only last week I was talking to a pal who said he hadn’t been in more than 30 years. Wow!! I did say, he wouldn’t recognise it. We would notice a difference if we didn’t go for 30 days, let alone 30 years. In more recent years we have seen the super impressive additions of Islands and Heart of Africa. And, of course, not forgetting the regular addition of new residents. It is always heart warming and a great bit of much needed good news in this current climate, when you hear of a new baby. A case in point, the news of a baby snow leopard being born was another huge, Wow!! In fact, more than a Wow!! A mega, mega, Wow!!

It is such exciting news that Chester Zoo announced the arrival of the new baby snow leopard. In welcoming the little cutie, it is incredible to know that the cub is the first of its kind to be born at the zoo in its 94-year history! Born to proud parents, Nubra and Yashin, who joined Chester Zoo in 2024, the new cub is just over six weeks old and may step outside soon!
Mum, Nubra, and cub have spent the last six weeks quietly tucked away in their den and Nubra has been showing all the maternal instincts you would hope for. Nursing her new arrival every few hours and always keeping close by.
The sex of the cub is not yet known but the Zoo are hoping to confirm this soon. In the meantime, the cub is growing in strength and confidence and will have its first health check-in with the Zoo’s vets in the coming weeks.
What a cutie. I can’t wait to see him or her. Can you imagine the queue when the cub does venture out!! Welcome to the world little ‘ un and welcome to Chester Zoo. Rest assured, you are in good hands.
