Chester Festival Of Ideas
More dates for the diary folks. These dates are still the best part of three months away but they’ll be here before you know it. The dates to note are between Thursday 4th July to Sunday 7th July. And the events, as the article title suggests, is the Chester Festival of Ideas. To quote a call out from one of the organisers, the University of Chester:
“Do not miss the chance to play a part in the first-ever Chester Festival of Ideas, the exciting new highlight in the city’s events calendar.”
Let’s take a closer look at the inaugural Chester Festival of Ideas.
Chester Festival Of Ideas
To start the ball rolling, take a look at the news release and the events currently lined up for the Festival. More events will be added, so keep checking the link for updates. As mentioned above, this is the first year of the Festival so I would imagine that in future years when there will be greater public awareness, more and more diverse events will take place. You can help decide by becoming involved.
So let’s give a quick mention of the aim of the Festival. The Festival is to offer a programme of inclusive and accessible public events, in and around Chester. For instance, there are speakers lined-up to talk on a range of topics, with activities such as discussion panels, theatre, pop-up exhibitions, interactive activities, music, readings, guided walks and many more in the planning.
Talking of speakers, or speaking of talkers, here’s some details on those already lined up.
Chester Festival Of Ideas Speakers
The actress, presenter, broadcaster, writer, campaigner and parliamentarian, Baroness Floella Benjamin, who has also been awarded an OBE, DBE (Officer and Damehood of the British Empire) and a Doctor of Letters from the University, is among the guests presenting free public talks. Floella will discuss her life and ‘Facing Adversity With a Smile’.
Other speakers also include historian, writer, broadcaster, presenter and filmmaker, Professor David Olusoga, who will look at ‘History and the History Wars’ and GP. Also lined up is menopause specialist, Dr Louise Newson, highlighting the subject as well as perimenopause.
As we get closer to the grand occasion, other speakers will no doubt be added. Keep checking this website for more details and updates.
Chester Festival Of Ideas Looking Ahead
As well as running my Chester Lifestyle website I also have a part-time role at the University. With my Chester Lifestyle hat on I was invited to the initial Festival meeting last June to bounce around a few initial ideas. I can say that there is great enthusiasm within the University about the Festival. Not only for this year but for subsequent years.
I already have a few ideas for future years and a specific sporting event to be added to this year’s itinerary. Many more of “the team” have other great ideas. As the Festival grows year on year, it will no doubt become an attractive mainstay on the “things to do in Chester” list.
Take a note of the dates (4th July to 7th July) and keep checking the website for updates. As the calendar is filled up more and more, I am sure you will find something of interest. Support the Festival as best you can. It is your Festival in your city. Spread the word if possible by sharing this post.
As we get closer to the Festival, I’ll post my own updates.
Full steam ahead towards Thursday 4th July.
