Heart of Africa at Chester Zoo
I just happened to be travelling along on a bus down Long Lane, Upton recently and looked to my right. “Wow, what a huge construction site going on there,” I thought. I had heard of the forthcoming Heart of Africa new development at Chester Zoo but didn’t realise it was going to be so big. Exciting times ahead for all Chester Zoo lovers. Mind you, there is always plenty going on at the Zoo anyway. This only adds to an already impressive range of interesting features and projects.
From what I can gather, the development is scheduled to be completed some time during 2025. I’m not 100% sure of that, so if anyone knows any different, then give me a shout. But, in very brief terms, let’s have a quick look at Heart of Africa at Chester Zoo.
Heart of Africa at Chester Zoo
I remember some time ago talking to a Chester Zoo employee about the Zoo generally. Commenting along the way how impressive the preservation work they did was and also commenting on how George Mottershead must be looking down on his “baby” with immense pride. In fact it was Mr. Mottershead who adopted the mantra of “Always Building.” In adopting such a mantra, many doors have opened and will, no doubt, continue to do so. Such an approach of constant development has helped Chester Zoo to become one of the UK’s largest zoos, with 128 acres of zoological gardens to explore. And one of the world’s top attractions along the way.
Heart of Africa, then, what is it? Over the next few years Chester Zoo are developing some of the most exciting new additions the zoo has ever seen. And let’s not forget, this is on top of so many other very impressive new additions. This now includes the Zoo’s exciting project to bring an authentic African savannah with lodge-style accommodation to the zoo with the new Heart of Africa zone.
Just imagine the tourist appeal when it is complete. Waking up in a lodge-style holiday home and looking out on a true to life savannah. You’re talking mega “Wow” factor aren’t you!! Yet again, well done to Chester Zoo. I know it’s not completed yet, but for just having the foresight for such an idea is absolutely brilliant.
In other news and not necessarily related to the Heart of Africa project, the Zoo are also delighted to be developing a state-of-the-art snow leopard habitat. This is set to open in 2024. Just thought I’d throw that in while we’re talking about exciting developments.
