Royal Mail Scam Alert Notice
Here they are again. In a way, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas would it if it wasn’t for those nuisance scammers would it? Mentioning scammers is something often reported on this website as regular readers will know. Sad as that is. But, a very unfortunate part of today’s society sadly. As always, wherever we can, we will bring as many scams to your attention as we can. In that way, you can be well aware of them and act accordingly. This latest one is a Royal Mail scam alert notice. Brought to you by way of a Cheshire Police alert. Have a read and take note. If you can, don’t forget to spread the word. Many thanks.
Royal Mail Scam Alert Notice
As the Cheshire Police alert says: “Trading Standards wants to warn consumers of the rise in scam messages as we move closer to Christmas.
Warning: Christmas Parcel Scams – https://www.cheshirepolicealert.co.uk/Alerts/A/58288/Royal-Mail-scam-Alert.
An increase in parcels sent over the Christmas period and industrial action, has left delays in consumers parcels being delivered.
Furthermore, consumers are therefore rightly concerned about where their parcels are in the various postal systems. Confusion, delay and worry are straight out of the scammer’s playbook. So it is not surprising to see even more parcel delivery scams this year.
Below are just a few examples of those currently circulating, some are more realistic and believable than others.
The National Cyber Security Centre have produced guidance on how to spot and report scam emails, texts, websites and calls. Please see link below: https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/collection/phishing-scams.
Royal Mail Scam Alert Notice – Do Couriers Need To Do More?
As ever the advice is sound and needs to be taken note of. Most people realise that it is a difficult task to keep on top of things 100%. Especially at this time of year. Mind you, you can’t help but feel that the courier firms need to do better. I’m sure most of us have our own tales to tell of courier firms and how we’ve been let down by them. We’re no different. A case in point.
A card was put through our door the other day. Maybe not Royal Mail, but it does also involve a courier. The card was from an Amazon driver and on it, a box – “left in the safe place you told us about” was ticked. And handwritten alongside, two words, “Rear Porch” were scribbled.
All well and good you may think. Apart from we’ve never notified Amazon of any “safe place.” And, in addition to that, even if we had, we wouldn’t have said our safe place was the “rear porch” as we don’t have a rear porch.
Cue phone call to Amazon. No surprises to find that, as always, we were met with a series of “maybe’s.” “Maybe it’s been left next door?” Or “maybe it’s been left in your garage?” And so on.
Just Give Me A Little More Time
Who’s old enough to remember the song by “Chairmen of the Board” – “Give Me Just A Little More Time.” Well, that’s what Amazon asked for. They asked that they be given another 24 hours so that they could look into it and that they would call us back the next day at 5:30pm. OK, we’re fair minded people. Let them try and sort it.
You can probably guess what’s coming. By 6pm the following day, no phone call from Amazon. No big surprise there really. So, we rang them back. This time, there was no record on file of the previous day’s conversation and a totally different spin added. Their system was now saying that the parcel had in fact been delivered the previous day and had been received by a resident. As I was the only one at home then that would have been me. Nope, most definitely not. Cue even more wriggling and stalling by Amazon. But, to no avail. We requested and received a refund.
Is this kind of service the norm? Again, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was. Let’s play at being more than fair here. The service from Amazon in this particular transaction was littered with errors. Someone maybe more cynical though may have come to the conclusion that Amazon were in fact being economical with the truth.
What!! Shock, horror!! Really? Would they do such a thing? You decide for yourself if that is a possibility.
Royal Mail Scam Alert Notice – Be Vigilant and Stand Your Ground
Anyway, back onto the main plot. And that is, details of another Royal Mail scam alert notice. As the sub heading says, be vigilant and be prepared to stand your ground. In respect of the latter point, don’t let the courier companies fob you off. No doubt they will, but stick to your guns.
Hopefully though you will all manage to have your parcels delivered OK and on time. And, following on from that, you all have a fantastic Christmas as well. Anyway, I must dash. I have to pop out and do some Christmas shopping. What, not shopping online? Nah, I think I’ll give that a miss.
