The Most Beautiful City In The World
This article title could well be quite a subjective and possibly quite a contentious topic couldn’t it. Mind you, is it a statement, or have I missed a “?” and is it a question? There you go, I’ve put one in. Let’s read the headline again – the most beautiful city in the world. Well, according to an article in the Daily Mail, this is a statement based on some scientific factors. And which city are they talking about? Hardly a drum roll needed really is there. They are, of course, talking about our beautiful city of Chester. Yes indeed, the most beautiful city in the world is Chester.
The Most Beautiful City In The World
Well thank you the Daily Mail for bringing this to our attention. And thank you to whatever the scientific process was. But any residents of Chester may also be saying, with an element of pride, “tell us something we didn’t already know!!” We all know that we do indeed live in a beautiful city. Oh sorry, I stand corrected. We live in the most beautiful city in the world.
And what scientific rationale was used? It was something called the “golden ratio.” And that means?
Have a read of this……..
“Chester is the most beautiful city in the world, according to science, because it has the most buildings that align with the ‘golden ratio.’
Researchers scanned Google Street View for front-facing photos of thousands of ‘iconic’ buildings and streets lined with homes from cities worldwide, before plotting points at the corners of each building to calculate the ‘proportion of the longest and shortest lengths of its dimensions’. Those proportions were then compared to the golden ratio (1:1.618) to see how well they matched. For reasons that can’t really be explained, humans find objects that unfold with this ratio inherently beautiful.”
So there you go. Next time you are thinking of taking a trip away, stop and think. Stay at home and enjoy the beauty of Chester. However, you can still get your “Golden Ratio-ometer” out. Now, also to be known as the GROMETER?
The Most Beautiful City In The World – Passing The Grometer Test
Just imagine such a gadget. There you are thinking about a trip away and you pull out your Grometer. Alright, alright, those old enough to remember entertainers like Benny Hill and are now sniggering, go to the back of the class. Tsk….you can spot Chubby Brown fans anywhere can’t you. Sorry Chubby, no offence.
Even without a real Grometer, you could well build and develop your very own Grometer in your own mind. Why, even if any Chester folks were thinking about enjoying a day out locally, they could apply their very own Grometer senses. Just imagine standing in Chester Railway Station and looking at the departure board. On it you see nearby destinations like, Liverpool; Platform 7B, or you see Wrexham departing from whatever platform. (NB, goes to show how often I go to Wrexham. I haven’t a clue of the departure platform).
Which would you decide? Well, if you went by the “Golden Ratio” findings, and as it was 7th on the most beautiful in the world city list, you would choose Liverpool wouldn’t you. Not being cruel on Wrexham, but I think your own Grometer would also tell you that. I even think quite a few Wrexham people would say the same. In fact I was talking about the very same topic only last Friday to a Wrexham resident. And where were we having this discussion? Correct, in a Chester pub.
Anyway, I digress.
Aside from its 7th placing, Liverpool is full of history, tradition, culture, great bars and eating places, sport and loads more. While Wrexham is……12 miles away. Again, only kidding people of Wrexham. If indeed any Wrexham folks read any of my posts. Only jesting…..or am I?
The Most Beautiful City In The World – Places Of Interest
Wow, where do we start. Oh, I know, have a look at this to start with – one of my other pages on my Chester Lifestyle website https://chesterlifestyle.com/places-to-visit/. The mentions on that page are not exhaustive. For instance, even though I’m not a Races fan, we also have regular Chester Race meetings held at the Roodee – the oldest racecourse in the world. Add that to the already impressive list. And, as Frank Carson would say (wow, I’m into quoting 1980’s comedians today aren’t I?), “and there’s more.” And there is.
Anyone from outside of Chester reading this, take note. As I say, have a read of my – https://chesterlifestyle.com/places-to-visit/ – article and make sure you watch the short Chester promo video on that page.
Also, don’t forget that during and after the worst of the pandemic era, Chester was voted “Staycation City Of The Year” in 2021. Or, as I called it in my blog post at the time “SCOTY.” Note the feeble-ish attempt to link this SCOTY status to the famous Star Trek line of “Beam me up SCOTTY.”
What was that I hear some of you shout. “Chester, Staycation City Of The Year. I didn’t know that. Where can I read more about that? Funny you should ask. Have a look at this post – a post about our “SCOTY” status https://chesterlifestyle.com/chester-awarded-staycation-city-of-the-year/
So Much To Be Proud Of
Yes indeed, we in Chester have so much to be proud of. This title of “The Most Beautiful City In The World” adds to all the other notable, significant and worthy mentions, awards and plaudits we have enjoyed, or had bestowed on us over the years. Let’s embrace it people of Chester. And for anyone from outside thinking of standing at their very own railway station and pondering the departure board. Don’t bother. Just march up to the ticket desk and loudly announce, “a ticket to Chester please.” Or should that request be, “a ticket to the most beautiful city in the world please.”
No need to be blase about it though. Let’s just enjoy living in such a beautiful location and do what we can to keep it so popular and a great place to visit and live in.
Oh, by the way, if you are wondering who produced that rather nifty image of Eastgate Street above? That would be me. What was that? Do, I have any more images? Again, funny you should say that. Have a little look HERE. And again, to mimic Frank Carson, there’s more to come.
