Neighbour Of The Year Awards 2021
Here we go folks. Head scratching time. My pal, John from Blacon (thanks John), has sent me news of a prestigious award event looming on the horizon. It is the “Neighbour Of The Year Awards 2021.” The initial notification it would seem has come from Cheshire Police and Neighbourhood Watch.
Have a read of the information. And, if you feel so inclined, get clicking and get voting. I’m not sure what you would look for, but for example, you may know a neighbour who has kept you regularly informed of latest scam warnings and other useful snippets of information over a period of time? Hmm…….interesting criteria!!!!
I’ll give my head a wobble and see if I can think of someone. I’m sure I’ll come up with a few ideas. Mind you, carry on reading and have a look below to see who I definitely WON’T be voting for.
Anyway, where were we. Yes, the “Neighbour of the Year Awards 2021.” More details below.
Neighbour Of The Year Awards 2021
Here’s the information sent on to me by John……oh, hang on a mo. I’ve just had a thought!!!
Cheshire Police Alert – The Search is on For The UKs Best Neighbour.
People across the UK are being invited to take part in our annual hunt for the UK’s ‘Neighbour of the Year.’ This is a nationwide search undertaken in partnership by Co-op Insurance and Neighbourhood Watch.
Now in its fourth year, 2021 sees the introduction of a new category: Community of the Year. This award will celebrate the nation’s most outstanding community (could be a street, a sports club, a faith collective, or anything in between, either in person or virtual, such as a WhatsApp, Facebook, or Slack group) and the lengths its members have gone to to support others and make a real difference.
To nominate your Neighbour of the Year, Young Neighbour of the Year (for people aged 21 years and under) or Community of the Year, and to find out more about these very special awards please visit coop.co.uk/noty
If you have any questions get in touch with us via enquiries@ourwatch.org.uk.
We can’t wait to see the nominations!
Best wishes

Neighbour Of The Year Awards 2021 – A Prestigious Accolade
I must say, I do think that these awards are quite an honour for those who are awarded the title. In this day and age, with so much negative stuff going on, isn’t it good and a much welcome change to focus on something positive. And something with a feelgood factor.
We are often so conditioned to focus on negative things, that it is a worthwhile distraction to see and think of the good in people. Even in the fictional world of TV, even some of the programmes are so negative. Case in point. The only soap I watch is Emmerdale. Well, to be truthful, it is now so bad, it is sort of on in the background while we have tea, After which, I take the opportunity to check my emails. Or, squeeze in a cheeky game of Sudoku on my phone.
But, regarding Emmerdale, does anything positive or happy ever happen in that village? Maybe the programme should be renamed to “Village of the Damned.” So depressing and dull. And especially in a period of our lives where we are looking for a bit of an uplift. Or, for something to cheer us up, or entertain us.
I know some may say that the storylines are reflective of things that happen in real life. Fair do’s. But, every storyline is so negative. Why? Nice things happen in real life too. Where are those storylines?
A final point on my Sudoku backdrop. If it was a real life village with those goings on, two things that stand out. If you are a clean living, law abiding citizen, then never move there. Far too many crooks and villains. But, on the other hand, if you’re a villain, then move there. The crooks never get caught!!!
Right, I’ve digressed haven’t I. Back on track then.
Neighbours – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
We’re lucky generally where we live with our neighbours. OK, as some may be reading this, I’ll wax a bit more lyrically. You’re all brilliant, excellent neighbours. Bar none.
Whoa, whoa….hang on. Back up a bit. I’ll have to qualify that gushingly inaccurate statement. I must exclude from the “excellent neighbours” tag, the regular fly tippers in the alley at the back of our house.
And who could forget, the infamous Chicken Gate perpetrator. Just look at the photo below.
And just in case you didn’t read the original article – you can read it HERE. As this post – “The Return of Chicken Gate” – shows, it wasn’t just a one off.
The reason I mention this is because what I’ve done there is to focus on the negative. Even though, I have my suspicions who the Chicken Dumper is (cue dramatic ‘DA, DA, DA’ music), this may be the only dodgy chicken naughtiness they’ve embarked on. For all I know, they may serve and help out at soup kitchens, go shopping for elderly neighbours, be an alter boy (or girl?), or be a generally good guy (or lass…..!!).
In short, they may do 99 great things (possibly without us knowing) and carry out just the one, bad, chicken dumping, or fly tipping misdemeanor. Do we always seem to remember, or notice, the one negative issue and let that sway us?
So, with that in mind, if we do know of a neighbour who ticks so many good boxes, then here’s the question. Do we think of them in a positive way and put their name forward? Or, does the one negative issue put us off? Do we think 99 good points far outweighs one wobble? And, if you aren’t aware of any wobbles, then even more reason to give them a shout out isn’t it?
Are we getting involved then? If so, all the details are above. Get voting if you know that your neighbour is a star.
