Red House Demolition Planning Application Has Been Refused
Back in March I wrote an article about the Red House and the proposed future plans of the site and venue. You can see the original article HERE. In short. the proposals were that, on the one hand, a Planning Application was submitted for the Red House to be demolished and luxury apartments built on the site. This Application was submitted by a property developer. Another proposal was submitted by local residents requesting that the venue be given a status of an Asset of Community Value (ACV). In the last few days the local Council have decided that the Red House demolition Planning Application has been refused. Furthermore they have approved the application that the venue be granted an ACV status.
Red House Demolition Planning Application Has Been Refused
Understandably this news has been well received by local residents. One of the reasons given for the Planning Application refusal is because: ‘The proposal would result in the loss of an existing community facility which would have an adverse impact on the quality of life, health and well-being of residents and visitors’
Since news broke about the initial Planning Application back in March, a campaign to preserve the future of The Red House began. Part of this campaign involved an application for the building to be listed as an asset of community value (ACV). As mentioned in the opening paragraph, this application has been approved.
In my original post, there was mention of the various activities and events the local residents had in mind for the Red House if ACV status was achieved. At this stage I imagine any such plans will now be discussed more fully. The granting of ACV status now represents exciting times for the local residents. However, quite a bit of work still needs to be done to put those plans into action. But that is something to very much look forward to. As I say, exciting times indeed.
Huge congratulations to those local residents who put the campaign together. I am sure you will enjoy and value the journey ahead. If you look at some of the suggestions mentioned in my original post you can see the huge potential there is for the building. And the site as a whole really.
The Red House Going Forward
As time goes on and as I followed the campaign myself, no doubt I will post more updates as things progress. Watch this space as they say. Like the local residents, I also look forward to the next chapter in the Red House’s future.
There may however be the possibility of an appeal against the decisions. However, I imagine this has also been considered by the local residents committee. And not only that, looking at the options (again as highlighted in my original post), it would be difficult to see beyond an ACV future.
