Paypal Scam Warning
Another new year and another year of scams. No suggestion of any good natured or kind hearted New Year resolutions by the scammers it would seem. Oh well, let us continue to ‘do our bit’ and identify and bring to your attention as many scams as we can. This one, as the post heading suggests is a Paypal scam warning. Before I post the specific details of this particular Paypal scam warning, it would seem that there are quite a lot of Paypal related scams out there. So, a general word of warning, be very wary of any Paypal emails. Especially ones that fit certain criteria. Allow me to elaborate.
Paypal Scam Warning
I received an email a few days ago purporting to be from Paypal. The subject line was – “New Update – Suspicious Activity. Your Paypal Account Has Been Limited Due Violates Our Policies.”
First thing, even the subject line doesn’t read right does it. “Account Has Been Limited Due Violates Our Policies.” Hey?? What does that mean?
In the body of the email, the heading announces: “Paypal Is Looking Out For You.” Hmmm…..are they now?
The main body of the article goes on as follows:
“At Paypal, your security is a top priority. we’ve taken extra precaution to confirm that your Paypal account is secure and have assigned your account with a temporary limited.”
Note the second sentence. It starts with a lower case “w” – that’s not my typo. Yes, mistakes can be made by anyone when typing an article. But when you see several errors, or nonsensical content in the same post (and no, I don’t mean any or all of my posts, thank you!!), then alarm bells should be ringing.
Also, the paragraph end of “temporary limited.” Again….. hey??
So already we have a nonsensical subject line; a nonsensical sentence in the first paragraph, incorrect use of letter casing.
Paypal Scam Warning Continued
The post then goes on to say:
“You will need to restore your account to re-access your Paypal account.
To restore your account:
- Click “log in now” in the below section.
- Follow the steps to restore your Paypal account.”
And of course there is the clickable link of “Login Now” underneath.
It goes without saying, DO NOT CLICK THE LINK!!!!
Other Things To Watch Out For
Importantly the email wasn’t addressed to anyone. Not even “Dear Customer.” The “warning” hasn’t identified anyone the warning relates to. Also though, even if it did say “Dear Customer” or something like that, again SCAM ALERT!!!
Also, take a look at the sender’s email address. The one I received was sent by a whole long string of gobbledegook nonsense. If it is a string of nonsense then that’s what it probably is……nonsense.
I hope the above helps you to spot a likely scam message. Just bear in mind the criteria above will probably be the same, just the content may be different.
Wherever possible I will continue to post scam alerts when I can. Hopefully they will help steer you on the right path. To all you scammers, we’re on your case. And remember, if we don’t stop you, take heed!!! Bluey’s gonna get yer……what? Who’s Bluey Hills?? Watch this space. One of these days I’ll post an article on some of the classic TV programmes I used to watch as a young ‘un. Bluey……what a legend!!!
Stay safe folks.
