More Scams To Make Note Of
Any of my website visitors will know that we have been very careful and diligent in posting scam alert warnings whenever we can. I say ‘we’ because much of the credit for many of these scam alerts have been provided by my pal, John from Blacon. Although, this latest one is from my own observations or experiences. Take note anyway folks and, if this is the first time you have visited my website, then you can see all the other scam alerts posts in this category HERE. You will also find many other security message alerts in this link. Now, in the build up to Christmas, it seems that there are more scams to make note of.
And these appear to be local as well so take heed folks. And, as ever, spread the word where you can.
More Scams To Make Note Of
These latest scams seem to focus on delivery opportunities. Which, in the build up to Christmas, seems to be the ideal platform to set up scams. One instance came to my attention in the local Next Door Neighbourhood (NDN) forum. Someone in this forum posted about a Royal Mail scam. Or, to be more precise, it is someone using the Royal Mail to perpetuate the scam. It is not a scam by the Royal Mail itself. Let’s be clear about that.
Anyway, the scam goes along the lines of:
“A Royal Mail text saying they tried to deliver a package but was unable then giving you a form to fill in name address post code the a further form for you bank details the give away is the text says reschedule were the proper Royal Mail says redeliver.”
Apparently this isn’t a particularly new scam. But, of course, it is if it hasn’t been brought to your attention before. For more information on this particular scam, John from Blacon, posted a link in the forum. You can read more HERE.
More Scams To Make Note Of – DPD Delivery Messages
Somebody else in NDN mentioned an increases in DPD delivery scam messages. Again, to re-iterate, these are scammers purporting to be from DPD, but they are not DPD themselves.
I’ve had a few as well recently. An email arrives with the DPD logo in place to make it look authentic. The message simply says:
“Today 11:23:28 AM-11/17/2020 we were unable to deliver parcel.
Never miss a parcel delivery again.“
Underneath the message is a clickable link that says, “Schedule new delivery.” Obviously, if you click the link that’s when the trouble starts. So, don’t click the link.
Make A Note Of These As Well
This one isn’t necessarily delivery related, but recently I’ve had text messages saying, “You have a recorded message from Laura [or any other name] dial 09XXXXXXXX to retrieve. To opt-out: xxxxxxxxx”
The opt-out bit of course is a scam link. And, the 09 prefix number is a premium rate scam number. I’m not sure exacyly, but I’ve somewhere mention that calls to one of these “09” prefixes can cost up to £15 per minute. So, to confirm, do not phone any “09” prefix numbers and do not click on any of the links.
More Scams To Make Note Of – Amazon Delivery
This one is back on the delivery theme. And it’s one that’s happened recently here in Chester. So, take extra caution. An Amazon delivery driver recently delivered a parcel and when the door was opened it so happened that he was speaking to the person the parcel was meant for. The driver, who was driving a private car and not a courier firm’s delivery van, asked: “Can you confirm your full name, address and date of birth please.”
When asked, “my date of birth. Why do you want my date of birth.” As quickly as you can say, “Your scam has been rumbled”, he was back in his car and driving off. Unfortunately too quickly to get the car registration number.
This happened in Hoole recently by the way.
So there you have it. More scams to make note of. No doubt more will surface in the run up to Christmas. Rest assured, when I get to hear of them, I’ll post about them on here.
Stay safe folks. And, as these are scam alerts, spread the word if you can. Many thanks.
