PopVox Choir
During all this doom and gloom isn’t it good to read about something with a positive spin on it. It’s certainly good to write about something pleasant and enjoyable. Although it’s been necessary, posts about Covid 19, online scams and the very well visited article about ChickenGate, can take a back seat for a moment. This article is about a fun loving group of ladies, many of whom are from the Chester area, called PopVox Choir. I hope I’ve posted that correctly in that PopVox is all one word.
Anyway, whether it’s PopVox, or Pop Vox, what are they all about? And what are they going to be getting up to in the not so distant future? Read on for more information folks.
PopVox Choir
Hands up. Who doesn’t like either listening to, or taking part in a sing-song? Not many I’ll bet. I must admit, I love both. Although I don’t go looking for them specifically, get me in a pub with karaoke and my name is down. I’m up there with the best of them.
What I get to do with a Neil Diamond classic, or Life Is A Rollercoaster by Ronan Keating is nothing short of…….I’ll let you decide. Suffice it to say, I’ve not been arrested yet, so maybe, just maybe, it’s not that bad!!!
But anyway, enough about my warbling. We’re talking about PopVox Choir here. A ladies choir with plenty of local, Chester participation. Mind you, hang on a mo. I’m saying ladies, but their website refers to adults. I only said ladies because the photos and videos I’ve seen have all been of ladies only choirs. I stand corrected if it includes men as well. The best thing for you to do is to visit their website yourself. You can find their website HERE.
PopVox Choir – A Brief Background
Where do I begin, to tell the story of how great……stop, stop!!! What did I say. Mention music and I’m into ‘singing on karaoke’ mode. This is no time to be belting out an Andy Williams classic from the film Love Story. Let’s hear about PopVox.
Here you go. PopVox was formed in 2011 and has several choirs across the UK. The PopVox idea, and I believe it is also a franchise opportunity, was founded by Emma Nowell who decided to use her professional experience and love of music to create a fun, friendly adult choir.
In fact, one of the taglines on their website, which you can find HERE, is “It’s about singing your heart out and feeling good!!!” Not a bad idea to keep in mind. Whether you are in a choir, or just singing into the shower head at home. Or knocking ’em bandy with a bit of “Love On The Rocks” on karaoke!!!
Their website also mentions, “No auditions. No termly fees. Just fun weekly auditions.” Looking at the photos and the videos on the website, the emphasis most definitely seems to be towards fun.
Choir Popularity
It is no big surprise to me, but you may not know that the popularity of being in a choir is growing from strength to strength. Did you know:
“There are around 25,000 choirs in the UK, including school and church ensembles. Singing is the country’s most popular group activity after sport, figures now show.”
During More Normal Times
Obviously during this lockdown, PopVox Choir are like everyone else and have to adhere to these Covid 19 regulations. But when back to normal, it is worth noting that PopVox Choir members meet weekly to work towards various events and performances.
Not so long ago, they have performed at:
- The Netball World Cup Opening Ceremony,
- Liverpool Epstein Theatre
- Chester StoryHouse
- CarFest North
- Southport Flower Show
- Chester Food and Drink Festival
- Liverpool Philharmonic Hall
- Liverpool Empire Theatre
- Warrington Guardian Awards
- Winwick Carnival
- Chester Half Marathon and
- St.George’s Hall.
Some other great opportunities have arisen. Members who wish to perform in public have had incredible opportunities over the past few years including singing at Disneyland Paris and as the Show Choir in the West End Tour of ‘Godspell In Concert.’
Without a doubt these opportunities are great additions to the “wonderful experiences that PopVox Choir members get to cherish.”
Well done ladies, or ladies and gentlemen.
PopVox Choir Chester
I did mention that there was a significant Chester participation in PopVox. You can see what I mean by checking out this Facebook link HERE. In this link you can see the choir perform in a short video. And very good you sound as well ladies.
The PopVox Choir Chester is managed by Pop Vox Choir founder, Emma Nowell. You can see the Chester Choir page on the website HERE.
Obviously there is no practice at the moment but when there is, you can find contact details on the link above if you wanted to join the choir.
Coming Soon – PopVox Choir Charity Single
I did ask the question above as to what PopVox would be up to in the not too distant future. Exciting News Alert!!!! Check out this link HERE. This link is the PopVox Facebook page. Go and have a look. PopVox are releasing a charity single ‘Sing It Out!’ on 1st December!! All profits raised are to go to Childline NSPCC.
You will find plenty of other good stuff in the Facebook link.
I’m not sure when exactly, but I believe that Emma Nowell is to appear on local news programme, Granada Reports soon. So, keep an eye out for that. If I get to hear when that is, I’ll update this post.
The charity single is available on iTunes and you can pre order today by going to this link HERE.
Anyway, there you go. A great idea for a a Christmas present. Never let it be said that my Chester Lifestyle website doesn’t always look to deliver top stories and top local links where possible. And there you go. A top local link, with a top charity related story.
