Thank You Complete Stranger
As mentioned in a recent earlier post, scams seem to be more and more popular at the moment. When I say popular, I do mean with the scammers of course and not we potential victims. Maybe we’re in the middle of “Scamming Season.” Texts and emails are coming thick and fast. Thank you complete stranger for my most recent email (copied below).
Fortunately, there are plenty of scam alert warnings here on Chester Lifestyle (largely due to the great efforts of John from Blacon). You can see them all HERE.
I have mentioned the old style emails before. These seem to date back to the early 90’s in origin. I did realise though that they may be common to me as I’ve seen them knocking about for so long, but they may not be so identifiable to others. So I thought I would replicate my most recent one received. At least then if you haven’t previously seen one before you will now know what they are all about. And you will know that you need to avoid them as well.
Thank you complete stranger for thinking of me even in these most difficult times you find yourself in.
Thank You Complete Stranger
Here’s the latest email. It is so typical of so many received over the years. Over the many, many years in fact. The thing is, they must still work as they are still sent after more than 25 years of their inception.
Thank you complete stranger for thinking of me, but no thanks.
“GOOD DAY TO YOU,
I know you might be surprised when this email gets to you . I barely know you but i wish to entrust some responsibilities to you. My name is Mrs. Bethanie Veronica Lee. I am a dying woman who has decided to donate what I have to you/church. I am 59 years old and I was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer for about two years, immediately after the death of my husband, who has left me everything he worked for. He owned an import/export company which operated in the UK, west Africa and in china. I have been touched by God to donate from what I have inherited from my late husband to you for the good work of God. Rather than allow my relatives to use my husband hard earned funds ungodly, since we had no kids to inherit them.
Please pray that the good Lord forgive me my sins. I have asked God to forgive me and I believe He has because He is a merciful God. I will be going in for an operation in less than a month and I’ll want you to stand as the beneficiary to the account of my late husband in the United Kingdom and in Africa. Also to the motherless and less privilege and also for the assistance of the widows.
I’m Entitled To How Much?
You would be entitled to 20% of all the funds which are deposited in bank/finance house in the United Kingdom and in Africa. The remaining 80% will be used to set up a foundation in my husband’s name, which will be used to help the less privileged. At the moment I cannot take any telephone calls due to the fact that my relatives are around me and my health status.
Please contact my lawyers in charge of the funds and they will arrange the transfer of the funds from my account to your preferred account as you would be the beneficiary to them.
There are above 20 million dollars deposited in banks/finance houses in the UK as well as in Africa. Please use your share of the funds well and always extend the good work to others.
Please tell him that I have asked you to reach him. This is my private email:ms.bethanielee@yahoo.com.hk
God blesses you.
Thanks,
Mrs. Bethanie Lee.
NOTE : If You Receive This Message In Your Junk Or Spam Its Due To Your Internet Provider.
I have omitted the lawyer’s details for confidentiality reasons as the lawyer does actually exist.
Thank You Complete Stranger – Victims In The 90’s
Back in the days of the early 90’s I knew of someone who got caught up in a fairly elaborate scam. It ended up costing this fella his business. And more probably. This particular scam involved a Prince, a shipment of oil and of course, the obligatory request to part with some money up front.
As they were new in the early 90’s, this fella went for it big time. I remember speaking with him and even after he was told the shipment of oil had yet again been delayed, he didn’t go with the idea it was a scam. However, I think though deep down, he probably suspected but at that stage a bit of pride kicked in and he didn’t want to admit he’d been conned.
I often wonder if he is still knocking about (he was from Hampshire back then) and I wonder if he ever got sorted.
So, just in case you haven’t received such an email, you’ve now seen one. You know what to expect. Remember the old adage, if it looks too good to be true then it probably isn’t true.
****Update To Earlier Email****
A few days ago I posted an article about more recent scams – see HERE. Since then I have been made aware of other organisations being wrongly attributed to these scams. One was an O2 email that I received. Also, I saw mention of a DVLA message in the Next Door Neighbourhood. So you know to be extra careful if you receive something strange looking from O2 and DVLA.
Stay safe folks.
