Neighbourhood Watch October

A Neighbourhood Watch is always worthwhile at any time. Even in these strange times we live in. You may think that as more and more of us are stuck at home because of the virus, a Neighbourhood Watch is less significant. Not so. A Neighbourhood Watch is vital at any time. We all still need to stay vigilant. John from Blacon has kindly sent me this Neighbourhood Watch October update. Have a read of it and the link included in the post. Some very useful information.

Neighbourhood Watch – Be Aware Of These Tips

As well as looking out for our neighbours, don’t forget to look out for yourself. Here’s a couple of tips to take note of.

If you have any strangers with ID knocking on your door. The Police recommend that you check the ID of anyone knocking on your door claiming to be from a company.

First of all, check the ID and get the company details on the ID badge. But, the Police also say, do not call the phone number on their ID card. Instead, ask them to wait outside while you search for the company’s phone number on the internet, or from a phone book. Do not let them into your property if you have concerns. 

Also, Age UK recommend that you put up a sign on your door or window to deter cold callers. Furthermore, setting passwords with utility companies to be used by anyone sent to your home and finding out if you have a nominated neighbour scheme to help make sure callers are safe.

This last bit regarding a neighbourhood scheme is a good idea. It may be something we should all consider in our own neighbourhoods.
