The Tears Of A Clown
A big welcome back to local life coach, David Jamieson. You may remember David has had several articles posted on Chester Lifestyle. You can see all his previous posts HERE. David has been very busy recently so we haven’t posted on here for a while. Let’s put that right with this latest offering. Anyone old enough to remember the Motown classic “The Tears Of A Clown?” I am and as such I am intrigued to read more about David’s “The Tears Of A Clown” article. Read on for more information……
The Tears Of A Clown
Here is what David has to say…..
“Statistically the first and last years of our lives are thought to be the most dangerous. And being male and hitting the grand middle age of 47 may also have a nasty sting in store.
It’s a time of reflection, on what we have, what we have achieved and what we have missed out on. And as I often find with clients, their negative thoughts seem to carry more weight than their positive counterparts.
Today, the male psyche is threatened. Role models and society are changing, and with them traditional values of work, marry, 2.4 children, house etc.
Evolution is a state of continuous change. It has taken thousands of years to get to where we are now and it’s mind-blowing when we look back over the last 20-30 years and compare them with the previous hundred or even fifty years.
This ticking age-bomb (47) is based on research by the Samaritans and reveals that males between 45-49 suffer the highest levels of stress, and are three times more likely to commit suicide than women.
Causes? High expectations, low feelings of self-worth and wellbeing, creating high levels of anxiety with low levels of happiness and life satisfaction.
There’s a song by Smokey Robinson, ‘The Tears of a Clown.’ The title suggests the likely content, and it’s a mask that could be worn by many. Men are typically more reluctant to open up, share emotions about their feelings to their better halves, family, or friends, instead keeping it in like a lid on a boiling pan, and so the pressure builds.
Professional Coach
As a professional coach I feel privileged to support people with their inner challenges, blockages, anchors, whatever is holding them back.
‘Talking therapy,’ provides the opportunity to open up in total confidence, about what’s really going in your life. Your hopes and fears, unrealised dreams.
I take a holistic, approach, questioning to access deeper, and more impactful issues. There may be tears (male too) but clients feel a sense of relief, like the following (male) feedback.
“I feel different today … like a weight has been lifted”
Together, we will extinguish the flames of despair, replacing them with seeds of hope, a different mindset, nurtured with a fresh perspective, and in time they will bloom.
Please, if you or somebody you know is showing signs of stress, like changed habits, drinking or smoking more, don’t suffer in silence. Seek professional support and for more serious, speak to a medical professional or the Samaritans.
Stay safe and well,
David“
