The Grand Reopening – 4th July

It seems this day was never going to happen doesn’t it. Well, maybe not never happen. But as the lockdown dragged on for what seemed like forever, I think you will get my drift. Yes, this Saturday sees The Grand Reopening. To be more specific I mean the grand reopening of Chester’s pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes.

Hang on, what’s that I can hear? Is that the sound of thunderous applause and cheering? I wouldn’t be surprised if it was. Let me think. When was the last time I ventured into a pub? Wow, it was ages ago!!! In fact, I think it was that long ago, Nelson had two eyes. No, wait. It wasn’t that long ago.

Let me check my wardrobe to see if the sight of a particular pair of strides will jog my memory. Was I wearing my purple pair of loons? Or my pair of yellow flares? No, hang on….loons and Lionel Blairs!!! It wasn’t that long ago either. That reminds me, I must sort out my wardrobe.

I know, I got it. I remember now. The pub lockdown started on Friday 20th March. I was last in a pub the Sunday before, the 15th March. As I write this, that is fifteen and a half weeks ago. That is 108 days ago!!! Incredible. Or, in approximate hours, 2,592. That is nearly as long as you wait to get served in Wetherspoons!!! Only joking Tim.

In other words, a long time. So the grand reopening of pubs this Saturday. Not all pubs are reopening though. Also, sadly some pubs and bars will be gone for good.

The Grand Reopening – Chester Pubs

I must admit I haven’t had time to check all pubs in and around Chester. So, apologies if I’ve missed your favourite boozer out. Or, if you are the landlord of said establishment, then drop me a line with your contact details of the grand reopening of your own venue. I’ll gladly slot the information in.

Also, having checked on Google, some of the pubs on my original list did not have their phone number listed.

And, again I must admit, I don’t know the full details of each pub’s opening. In other words, whether a pub will be doing food, whether you have to book and for how long you can stay and so on.

So, rather than me try and provide you with details that may not be 100% accurate anyway, I’ll list the pubs in alphabetical order along with their phone number. So, any pub of interest you can contact them directly. That sounds the best option all things considered.

By the way, I’ll do a similar thing with the restaurants and cafes. Just to mention as well, some of the venues may appear in more than one list. For instance, a pub may well appear in the restaurant list as well as they have been identified as both – e.g. the Bear and Billet. I’m sure you’ll suss it out.

The Grand Reopening – Plenty To Choose From

I think the above will give you plenty of food for thought…….gerrit…..food for thought. I’m wasted aren’t I.

Just to reiterate, any that tickle your fancy, give them a call for more details on their opening times and booking procedures and so on. Fingers crossed the grand reopening will go off without too many hitches and everyone has a great time.

The Grand Reopening – It’s A Learning Curve

Let’s not forget that this weekend will be a big learning curve for everyone. Customers, pub landlords, restaurant owners and staff will no doubt all find it a bit weird. So, bear with it. I’m sure it will all fall into place. And after this weekend things will be even more normal and familiar as punters and staff alike get to grips with the newness of it all.

If you are planning on having a few sherbets then remember to take it easy. Respect the other customers and the place that you are in and all their staff. Show consideration and remember the social distancing rules.

Oh, and for any fellas reading. Remember to always wash your hands after you’ve been to the loo!!! I’m not just saying it, but I always wash my hands. I’m always amazed though at those that don’t. In fact it’s the reason I won’t eat any freebie nuts if a pub kindly puts some out in bowls on a bar.

So fellas, read that bit again above. Always wash your hands after going to the loo!!!

Enjoy the grand reopening if you are going to be out and about. I’m not sure if this weekend will be a bit too early in the transition for me. I may just leave it a week or so. We’ll see.

But when I am ready I’ll be well primed to hit the ground running. “A pint of Otter please” will just roll off the tongue. Mind you, after so long without a proper bevy it may not roll off too easily soon after. I may be talking ‘broken biscuits’ after a couple. Either way it’s great to have the option to pop along to our locals again. Long may it continue.
