What’s Not To Like
Now here’s a date for your diaries. I’ve mentioned on many occasions that I’m a fan of Chester Zoo. Who isn’t!! A trip to one of the world’s best attractions (not just my opinion – this particular status has been bestowed by more than just humble, little ole me) is always a great day out. But even by their own high standards, what about this. Chester Zoo are to hold their own unique gin tasting evening. So, gin lovers – Chester Zoo and your favourite tipple. It should be a great occasion – what’s not to like.
What’s Not To Like
How cool is that. Chester Zoo are opening their doors after hours for an exclusive, one-off, ginsational event. After hours, hey. Does that mean it’s like a Chester Zoo “lock-in”?
Anyway, visitors to this brilliant idea will get to have a snifter of a selection of gin cocktails. Not just any old gin cocktails though. Nope. These are samples inspired by plants at the attraction.
Over recent years gin has really taken off. Always a popular drink anyway, but even more so. Particularly gin cocktails. You now very often see pubs and other bars having their own gin “corner” – or a specially prepared area where they showcase the numerous of gins available.
You didn’t see anything like that when I started drinking all those months ago. Mind you, there wasn’t much call for special events for pints of Mild and Cask Bitter then. Do pubs still sell Mild nowadays?
What’s Not To Like – Gin Tasting At A Special Venue
This particular gin tasting event is being organised by the Zoo’s plant conservationists. There will be more than sampling gin going on though. Visitors will be given the chance to see the Zoo’s rare and exotic plant offerings. And have a chat with the conservationist expert hosts.
All this will be held at the Zoo’s Grade II listed refurbished Oakfield pub/restaurant. Have you been to The Oakfield yet? Fair do’s a cracking pub. And, going off the gin theme for a moment, they serve a belting pint of bitter as well.
Throw in a trip around the orchid greenhouse where you can taste some of the edible plants resident at the Zoo.
Visitors will also discover how the Zoo’s 125 acres of gardens played as big part in the creation of award winning Cuckoo Gin.
All in all, it looks like an event worth considering. As I say, if you love gin and Chester Zoo then what’s not to like.
What’s Not To Like – When Is This Ginsational Event?
This exclusive, one-off occasion takes place on Friday 30th August. Ticket prices are £60, with income from ticket sales going towards the Zoo’s work as an international conservation charity.
