Things To Do This Weekend
That’s the thing about Easter and May isn’t it. We have a spate of Bank Holiday weekends over a short period of time. I’m certainly not complaining. Far from it. This year in particular, Easter was a lot later so we seem to have had them so frequently recently. So, what can we be doing? What are some of the things to do this weekend?
Things To Do This Weekend
As anyone who visits my website will be aware, I have a specific page dedicated to some of the regular things we can do in Chester. You can find this useful page HERE.
You will see there are so many places to visit. I am a fan of all of them. Here’s a short video I prepared a while ago where you can see some of the many attractions to be enjoyed.
Have a look at this…….
Two of my favourite places to visit are Chester Zoo and The Groves. The Zoo is always a brilliant place to spend the day. It seems that every week there are announcements of new babies. This week is no exception.
Welcome to the world and to Chester Zoo another baby Rothchild’s Giraffe. This little cutie has been named Karamoja (aka Mojo) after the region in Uganda where work is going on to protect one of the last populations of Rothchild’s Giraffes.
Yes, as ever, Chester Zoo is a great option. For more details of what’s happening at Chester and details of opening times etc, take a look HERE.
The Secret Life Of The Zoo
Not really a “things to do this weekend” option but there again it may well be. Did you watch the “Secret Life Of The Zoo” last night? If not, spare an hour this weekend and watch it on catch up. It was on Channel 4. This particular episode was an “Underwater Special”.
It was brilliant. The staff at the Zoo are incredible aren’t they. I won’t offer any spoiler alerts in case you want to watch it, but suffice to say, it’s well worth watching.
Take a bow Tiny Tim, Popeye and Frazzle. Who on earth are they? If you watched it you will know. If not, you’ll need to get tuned into “On Demand”
The Groves, River Dee
Another big favourite of mine as some of you may know, is The Groves. With the right weather, you can enjoy some real relaxing time down by the Bandstand and close by.
In case you haven’t seen my recent video on The Groves, have a look at here….
No doubt JakLash Cat will be down there on Sunday.
And Now For Something Completely Different
The above are mentions of regular things to do this weekend as well as every other weekend. All quality options. Now then, here’s some details of one-off Bank Holiday events. They are well worth a mention and a consideration.
Things To Do This Weekend – Upton Fest
Now here’s a good ‘un by the looks of it. The Upton Fest Weekend Music Festival. It is on Saturday (between 12pm-9pm) and Sunday (12pm-8pm). Where is it? It is at the Cheshire County Sports Club, Plas Newton Lane.
Music entertainment for this attractive event is as follows:
Saturday: JK as Robbie Williams; Moni Evans; Outbreak CH2; Inkonsoulable and Break The Record
Sunday: Flash: A Tribute To Queen; Pair Of Sixes; The Quayz and more bands still to be confirmed.
Tickets are £10 – more details of the event and ticket information can be found here at www.uptonfest.co.uk
It’s not just a music festival though. There are other attractions, such as stalls; street food; football darts; segways; bungee trampolines; assault course; bars and much more.
I hope the weather is favourable this weekend. I’m sure there will be enough of interest whatever the weather.
NB: You may need to be aware that the following are not allowed: dogs; picnics; alcohol; no unaccompanied under 18’s.
Also, bag searches will be carried out.
Things To Do This Weekend – Floating Market
How cool does this sound. A floating market on the canal!! Good or what!!! It is on tomorrow (Saturday), Sunday and Monday between 10am and 4pm.
Where? On the canal alongside The Lock Keeper, just by Cow Lane Bridge. For more details, have a look HERE.
Chester Races – Roman Day
I’m sure everyone in Chester will be aware that there is another Chester Race Meeting this weekend. Tomorrow sees the “Roman Day” meeting take place.
The actual racing begins at 1:45pm with the Betway Novice Stakes. The last race is at 5:10pm. But there’s more than that. In the morning (from 11:30am) there is a family themed event going on in celebration of Chester’s historical Roman roots.
There will be chariot races, pole jousting (I’m Polish, no one’s jousting me I can tell you!!) and the chance to meet and have your photograph taken with a foot soldier.
Something different for all the family.
No doubt there will be quite a few other events going on. But these are the ones that have been brought to my attention. In a nutshell there are plenty of things to do this weekend.
Me? I’ll be having a quiet weekend. Probably have a look at the Floating Market though at some point. This seems interesting and different.
Also, no doubt I’ll be raising a celebratory glass at some stage tomorrow (25th May) in recognition and remembering the anniversaries of 25th May 1977 and 25th May 2005.
Have a good ‘un everyone.
