On The Mend
Maybe not but I seem to have come across quite a lot of negative stories recently on a variety of topics. And of course, you will find the dreaded “B” word that rhymes with “Exit” everywhere you turn. No dreaded “B” word from me. There are plenty of other websites you can find that. No, the main gist of this post is to focus on a couple of positive news items. As the heading of “On The Mend” says, some good news to follow.
But, not wanting to dwell on the negative stuff too much, it is worth mentioning that there is news of yet another retail closure in the city centre. This time Crabtree and Evelyn on Bridge Street has bitten the dust. For those that don’t know, Crabtree and Evelyn is a body, fragrance and home care products retailer.
It isn’t only the Chester branch from their international network that has been affected it would seem. They seem to be struggling elsewhere as well. So, for those that may have been planning a trip into town to get your next batch (are body and fragrance products sold in batches by the way?), you’d better be quick while the 70% off closing down sale is on. There is no indication as yet when they are closing though.
Anyway, onto a couple of positive news snippets on the theme of “on the mend”
On The Mend
Firstly, it is great news to announce that 10 year-old Alfie Watts has been released from hospital. Good on you young Alfie. Great to hear. If you don’t know the story about young Alfie and why he was in hospital, take a look at this earlier post HERE.
And there’s another HERE. And a quick “Get Well” message HERE.
Alfie Watts – On The Mend
While on the mend, young Alfie has received a variety of well wishes and gifts from many quarters. Not only from the general public, but also from celebrities and from an astronaut as well. How cool is that!!
Alfie has been well into his scouting since the age of six. Amongst the well wishes during his road to recovery has been a visit from Flintshire District Scout Commissioner, Richard Hebden.
Mr Hebden presented Alfie with a variety of gifts from well wishers. Amongst the donations in the autographed gifts bag he was presented with was a pair of Bear Grylls camera glasses. Understandably, Alfie was very excited to try those out.
Other celebrity well wishes have also been received from Scout ambassadors, Steve Backshall, Warwick Davies, Julia Bradbury and astronaut Tim Peak.
Great stuff folks. Alfie is slowly but surely starting to get back to a more normal life. He has made brief visits back to his school and has been enjoying playing games online with his friends.
Well done Alfie. Your are well on the mend it seems. Hopefully you will be back to a full recovery very, very soon.
Also on the mend it seems, and hopefully to a full recovery is young baby Asian elephant, Indali Hi Way.
Indali Hi Way- On The Mend
The latest reports coming out from Chester Zoo is that Indali is showing signs of recovery. Chester Zoo provided an update a few days ago on 3rd April.
It has been reported that after 14 days of treatment for the elephant herpes virus, EEHV, Chester Zoo now believe that two-year-old Asian elephant calf Indali has entered a recovery phase.
While this is hugely optimistic news, Indali is not exactly out of the woods yet. EEHV remains a deadly virus and Chester Zoo are wary of the possibility that this is a remission and her condition could still decline.
She is getting the best treatment though. Chester Zoo’s large team of vets and keepers will continue to monitor her closely.
Now I’m not a vet, nor a medical expert of any description but it is clear that the vets and all those supporting them at Chester Zoo have done an absolutely brilliant job so far. Well done one and all.
Fingers crossed for Indali. May she continue on the road to recovery and remain on the mend back to a normal life.

On The Sporting Front – Are Chester FC On The Mend?
Maybe not necessarily hugely broken but maybe needing to be on the mend has been Chester FC’s form since Christmas. A run of 19 points from a possible 48 since Boxing Day has not been brilliant. But, as they say in football, you’re as good as your last game. And the last game was a 3-2 away win at relegated Nuneaton on Saturday just gone (6th April).
That means Chester have picked up 7 points from the last 9 at stake. Hopefully that is a sign of an upward trend between now and the end of the season. Five games left, beginning with a “biggie” against title chasing Stockport County at home tomorrow – 9th April; kick-off 7:45pm. The game is all ticket and you only have until 4pm today (8th April) to get your ticket. So, while the weather is good, take a trip down to The Swansway and get your ticket.
Stockport County are, of course, another club that seem out of place in the National League North. And even the National League for that matter. There is no such thing as having a divine right in football for any success in football. All clubs have to work hard and earn their success, but let’s hope both Chester and Stockport earn that right to be back where they should be.
Best of luck for the remaining five games.
On The Mend – Do Chester RUFC Need A Quick Fix?
After tonking fellow promotion rivals Huddersfield on 30th March by an impressive score of 57-10, it was a case of down to earth with a bump for Chester on Saturday just gone. They were hammered 45-7 by another promotion rival in Sedgley Park. Ouch!!
So, a mini “on the mend” remedy is maybe needed here as well. Still though, Chester RUFC are well in the hunt for a promotion spit as they remain in second place behind Hull Ionians. Keep it going guys and best of luck for your remaining games.
Just a brief post folks aiming at relaying some positive news items. No “B” word and only a quick mention of another retail closure. Onwards and upwards. Have a great week one and all.
