Chester Race Meetings
In case you didn’t know, today – 9th May – sees the beginning of the latest Chester Race Meetings dates. As we speak the weather is warm and sunny. Let’s hope the weather stays favourably for the three day event. To confirm, this meeting covers today, tomorrow (10th) and Friday (11th). For all intents and purposes this first meeting in May is normally recognised as Chester’s main meeting.
Chester Race Meetings
Consequently it is fair to say that the May Festival meeting is well known for its atmosphere, entertaining racing schedule and stylish crowd. The first May meeting, the May Festival, has been a favourite among racegoers for many years.
Therefore it is expected that racegoers from all over the country will flock to Chester Race Meetings. Attracting crowds to this May Festival has traditionally been the best attended.
Normally the first day of the May Festival was Chester Cup Day. This in itself seemed to be a strange decision as the Chester Cup is the main event and you would expect the main event to be held at the end. A bit like the Grand National at Aintree. The National is always on the last day of the meeting.
Anyway, it has at least been changed this year. Today, the 9th May, is City Day, tomorrow is Ladies Day and Friday is Chester Cup Day.

Dress Code
Yes, there is a dress code. Consequently, you will be expected to dress accordingly. Also, I think it’s fair to say that it is one of the highlights of the Chester Race Meetings to see what fineries our lady racegoers turn out in. Hence the “not to wear” aspects of the dress code does not apply to the ladies as much.
For full details of the dress code – see this link HERE. In addition to a dress code you can find other news and information to be aware of HERE.
Plan Your Visit
Furthermore, as the Fair is also in Chester this week, parking might be a nightmare. So, if you are looking to visit Chester and in particular any of the Chester Race Meetings, you should be aware of parking details. More details HERE.
Hopefully all racegoers will have an enjoyable and a successful time. I cannot recall seeing an alcohol warning on the official website, so a request if I may to all racegoers who see Chester Races as merely a good opportunity for a booze up. Remember when the races are over and you go into town, not everyone has been to the races and will not have had as much to drink as you have. So, try and behave please.
In conclusion, it is hoped a good time is had by all. So, if you are going, why not tell us about your Chester races experience by adding a comment.
